The HC Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy Unit shall provide for the basic diagnostic gastro-intestinal endoscopy services including;
- Gastroscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Flexible procto-sigmoidoscopy
Equipped with the latest fiber-optic video endoscopes, the team of accredited and highly-trained Gastroenterologists manning the HC Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy Unit could amply satisfy the need for efficient and safe basic endoscopic services of patients in an amiable clinic atmosphere. Trained in the academic setting, the cordial and competent Gastroenterologists of the Endoscopy Unit can provide for convenient and comfortable endoscopic experience outside of the often unpleasant and distressing encounters in the hospital setting.
It is the intention of the HC Medical Clinic and Laboratory to strictly adhere to the recent gastroenterology clinical guidelines with regards to the need and conduct of gastro-intestinal endoscopic procedures which unfortunately could not be assured of being firmly observed in most commercial hospitals and medical institutions.
Patients with gastro-intestinal conditions which need to be confirmed with actual visualization of the gastro-intestinal mucosa including those with;
- Persistent abdominal pains
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Changes in bowel habits
- Suspected gastro-intestinal bleeding
Simple endoscopic procedures like mucosal biopsies for histopathology and/or Helicobacter pylori testing and snare polypectomies can likewise be suitably handled in the Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy unit.
Limitations however are recognized for certain medical conditions including those involving the gallbladder and biliary tree, bleeding esophageal varices, significant colonic obstructions and life-threatening gastro-intestinal bleeding which are best managed in a tertiary hospital.
